My experience was mainly in blue chip manufacturing businesses, where I would manage the accounting team and develop profit improvement strategies with the senior management teams. Since starting the practice we have helped hundreds of SME businesses grow, fulfil their ambition and achieve their dreams. I qualified as an Accountant in 1992, I also have degree in accountancy and economics and am a certified Quickbooks Advanced ProAdvisor I am the mum of twin boys (well men now I guess) aged 24 and two very spoilt dogs, Millie and Poppy. I am a keen baker and like to think I would have a good chance on The Great British Bake Off, if only I had the time to enter!
Sindy Smetham FCCA
I took my Accountancy degree at Huddersfield, I joined a small accountancy practice and began studying towards my professional qualification, whilst learning how to put accounts together and audit company records. After a change of firm, I qualified as a Certified Accountant and decided to ‘change sides’ and go to work for a client as their in-house accountant. In 2013 I decided that I wanted to spend less time commuting and more time with my young family and came to work for Business Works. In the office I am considered the technical expert in all things Quickbooks. Away from work, I enjoy running and Yoga when I’m not Mum’s taxi, which usually involves taking my daughter to gym or the ice rink or my son to football training. I also like a get together with friends, which usually involves a G&T or two.

I began working for a small accountancy firm where I started studying for an AAT qualification. Three years later I completed this and went on to study to become a Chartered Certified Accountant. Following time out to start a family, I am now in the final stages of being qualified. I joined Business Works in June 2016 with over 12 years’ experience working on the accounts of sole traders, partnerships and small-medium sized companies. I am also a certified Quickbooks Advanced ProAdvisor. As well as studying for my final Accountancy exams, I am kept very busy by my two young children. In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, socialising with friends and fundraising for the school which my eldest son attends.
I am a highly practised Office and Events Manager with almost 23 years administrative, marketing and event management experience gained in accounts departments, HR teams, with travel companies and, before joining Business Works, at Leeds Law Society. I joined Business Works in the Autumn of 2013. I support the team by looking after the many administrative tasks here at Business Works. I am a very proud mum of two boys, who keep me busy! Away from Business Works I run two small businesses (one with my husband) and love to do fundraising for local clubs and national charities. To relax I enjoy walks in the countryside, watching the boys doing their extracurricular activities and spending time with friends where prosecco normally features!
On a day to day basis, I take part in bookkeeping for Sole Traders and Limited Companies, preparation and filing of VAT returns, preparation and filing of payroll and PAYE and final accounts preparation. Following work experience at a small accountants practice and the finance department of a law firm, I knew that accountancy would be the perfect career for me due to my interest in numbers and business. I am in my final year of studying AAT and will shortly be a qualified Accounting Technician. I aspire to be a Chartered Financial Accountant and intend on studying the ACCA qualification. I am also a certified Quickbooks Advanced ProAdvisor In my spare time, I enjoy socialising with my friends. I am also a keen supporter of Leeds Rhinos. I also have a slight addiction to buying shoes with an ongoing collection of creatively styled Doctor Marten boots.
I started working at Business Works in early Autumn of 2017 having been away from the office environment for 14 ½ years. My background prior to this is over 15 years experience in PA/Secretarial roles together with marketing and events, this being gained in various business environments including retail, legal, engineering and private medical insurance. At Business Works I assist and organise the marketing and events. My time away for the office environment was to be a stay at home mum for our 2 children, who still keep me busy with their evening and weekend activities. I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends (which usually entails a glass of vino!) as well as walking our dog Millie. As a family we also enjoy our skiing holidays, although my husband and children are rather quicker than me!
I started work as an apprenticeship in Travel and Tourism. I was approached by a recruitment agency in 2015 regarding a role in administration. During this time I was trained up to help the Payroll assistant on busy periods and to cover when needed. Shortly after, I was offered this job full time, which I accepted after realising how much I loved working in Payroll. I joined the Business Works team in September 2017, bringing 8 years administration and 2 years Payroll experience with me. I am looking forward to getting stuck into the role. I am a proud mum to my little boy, who turns one next month. I enjoy spending time with him and my fiancé, going on long walks and visiting places with wildlife. I also enjoy socialising with my friends and reading books when I get the chance.
